Park's Edge

(from Google Images)
My mom and I were out last night for ladies' night and decided to have dinner at a restaurant I heard about through livingsocial.com.
Park's Edge is located in the Poncey Highland neighborhood of Atlanta ( just about 5 minutes from my house) and  hosts a variety of contemporary dishes. It was great to not only be out spending time with my mom, but also getting to know the neighborhood a little better.

Mom!

What is ladies' night without a glass of wine??? The house
sauvignon blanc

To start we were served a roasted garlic clove paired with bread. The roasted garlic made for one of the most unique spreads I have ever had and was simply delicious.

For my entree I selected the seared scallops with fried green tomatoes and mushroom risotto. The scallops were notably well cooked, though the highlight of the meal was definitely the risotto. Let's just say I ate every bite!

Lastly for dessert, a chocolate molten lava cake

As a special touch we had the opportunity to meet the owners Richard Wadlington and Chef Jorge Pacheco (pictured above). There were many complements to the host and chef.

Key Lime Sunshine

I don't know if it was all the good food from father's day or what , but I was really in the mood to bake something. Since I've been talking about it for forever I decided on Key Lime pie. One of my favorite summer desserts.

It is a really simple recipe and takes no time at all to make.

Ingredients

  • 5 egg yolks, beaten (I used 4 this time)
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup key lime juice
  • 1 (9 inch) prepared graham cracker crust (I used Keebler's really cute mine gram-crusts)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Combine the egg yolks, sweetened condensed milk and lime juice. Mix well. Pour into unbaked graham cracker shell.
  3. Bake in preheated oven for 15 minutes. Allow to cool. Top with whipped topping and garnish with lime slices if desired.
separating the whites from the yolk

After mixing the yokes, lime juice, and condensed milk, I added lime zest for an extra kick

I like meringue rather than cool whip, so I beat the egg whites just like I used to see my grandmother do.

A helpful tip is to use cream of tartar to help the whites peak when you're beating them. I also used powdered sugar in the whites to sweeten them

Oven ready

just 15minutes later and a slice of lime

Key Lime Sunshine ready to eat!

Dinner with Dad

For Father's day I was out with my family to a restaurant I have been dying to try. Mary Mac's Tea Room is one of the best soul food places in Atlanta and me and the family were hungry!

Grampa looking over the menu

I thought it was cool that Mary Mac's used ordering cards, although it took me forever to decide what to put on it. So many good choices

Today seemed like the perfect day to try a Mint Julip. It was refreshing and it was strong!

I finally settled on the fried chicken, squash souffle, and fried okra (Loved it)

After we were stuffed beyond belief we turned our attentions back to the men of the hour.
They loved their gifts

It was an awesome meal and a Happy Father's Day!

Funday!!

Last Friday me and my friends Alex and Shea decided to have a Funday!! We started things off with bottomless mamossas.

the gang

after we finished off the drinks (guess they weren't so bottomless ha) we headed to Willy's at Piedmont Park for margaritas

we had a nice stroll through the park, then wayyy too much fun climbing trees!

Guess we have the freedom to live, laugh, and love

Now that summer is in full-effect I've set a few goals for myself:

1. Read 10 books (3 down 7 to go)
2. run a 5k
3. catch up on my knitting
4. learn French
5. travel to Los Angeles
6. take a cooking class
7. 100 volunteer hours
8. Drink 100 different beers
9. buy a new laptop
10. perfect my British accent for London

Roots Picnic

I was in Philly a few weekends ago for the Roots Picnic and it was a whirlwind of a weekend!

The day before the concert me and my friends went to a cookout at Abakus (http://www.abakustakeout.com/at/) a really cool clothing store in Philly's Chinatown

The acts at Roots Picnic definitely did not disappoint. My favorite performers were Little Dragon (pictured above), Wiz Khalifa....

.... of course the Roots.....
